Gender Equality

Gender equality, also known as sexual equality, is the state of equal ease of access to resources and opportunities regardless of gender, including economic participation and decision-making. Gender equality (equality between men and women) entails the concept that all human beings, both men and women, are free to develop their personal abilities and make choices without the limitations set by anyone.

There is no doubt that world is making progress towards gender equality, but still women and girls are suffering from a lot of discrimination and violence. The condition is better in urban areas if we compare them to that of rural areas. I, myself being a girl can understand how it feels when you are treated equally. I always got a lot of opportunities but there are many girls who were deprived of even the basic needs.

(It is written that we give our lives or we love other’s daughter but we kill our own.)

In some places female foeticide is very common. Many people will think that how female foeticide is a matter of gender equality as it is a matter of women empowerment. I say it is a matter of gender equality too. One thing I am not able to understand that everyone wants wife and a mother but no one wants a daughter. People want a female gynae but don’t want to educate their daughter.

Generally I write in English, but today I have written something in Hindi (Transaltions are there). I have written something in HINDI.

“Yun toh sab kehte hai ki ladkiyan ladkon se kam hai,

Par koi mujhe yeh btaye ki ladkon main kis baat ka dum hai.

Aise toh kayi kaam hai jo ladkiyan kar sakti hai par ladke nhi,

Par koi mujhe woh kaam btaye jo ladke kar sakte hai par ladkiyan nhi.”

– Avni Jain

Translation: People always say that girls are weak, but can someone tell me why boys consider themselves strong. There is plenty of work that women can do but men can’t, but can someone tell me something that men can do but women can’t.

I am not at all against boys. I have my father and my brother. There is complete respect for boys. It is for those who consider girls are less than boys and consider them as a liability.
